Kanye West Sparks Controversy with Antisemitic Rant on X
Rapper Ye, formerly known as Kanye West, once again stirred outrage early Friday morning by posting a series of antisemitic remarks on X, the social media platform formerly known as Twitter. In a flood of messages to his 32 million followers, Ye praised Adolf Hitler, declared himself a Nazi, and dismissed antisemitism as "just some bulls--t Jewish people made up."
The posts were reminiscent of his 2022 controversies, which cost him major fashion deals and tarnished his reputation. Despite the backlash back then, Ye remained defiant, writing, "ANY JEWISH PERSON THAT DOES BUSINESS WITH ME NEEDS TO KNOW I DON’T LIKE OR TRUST ANY JEWISH PERSON AND THIS IS COMPLETELY SOBER WITH NO HENNESY. IM NEVER APOLOGIZING FOR MY JEWISH COMMENTS."
Echoes of 2022 Scandals
Ye's latest tirade mirrors his previous antisemitic outbursts, which led to his suspension from social media and the loss of lucrative business deals, most notably his $2 billion-a-year partnership with Adidas. During that period, he also dined with former President Donald Trump and white nationalist Nick Fuentes, further amplifying concerns about his extremist views.
This time, some of Ye's posts were briefly removed or hidden but later reappeared, including ones openly glorifying Hitler. "I'm going to normalize talking about Hitler," he wrote, followed shortly by, "Hitler was soooo fresh."
Reactions and Fallout
Ye's return to controversy has reignited criticism of X under Elon Musk’s ownership. Since Musk relaxed moderation rules, the platform has seen an increase in extremist content, including neo-Nazi rhetoric. Many watchdog groups previously warned of a "Kanye effect," where white supremacists use his statements to justify antisemitic actions.
Ye also acknowledged his recent autism diagnosis, a claim he made after an unpredictable appearance at the Grammy Awards. Previously, he had attributed his behavior to bipolar disorder.
Closing out his rant, Ye appeared indifferent to the consequences, stating, "If I lost everything again tonight was worth it I can die after this." He also took a moment to praise the Jewish creators of the popular video game The Last of Us, saying, "Good job, thank you."
His latest remarks have once again put his career and public standing in jeopardy, as many await potential consequences for his inflammatory statements.
